Until 17 August 2008, the Historical Museum at Schloss Gifhorn, between
Wolfsburg and Braunschweig in Lower Saxony, is hosting an exhibition of
Turkmen textile art, including pile carpets, flatweaves and embroideries, from
the collection of Dr Karl-Heinz and Gertrud Geib.

Auction Record Set to Fall at Christie's New York- Hali 2008

Radiating Beauty- Hali 2008

This stellar Louis XIV Savonnerie carpet fragment was sold to a English private
buyer for £138,500 ($272,985) on 22 May 2008 at Christie’s in London as part
of the ‘West - East: The Niall Hobhouse Collection’. Previously owned by
Francesca Galloway, who advertised in the second HALI Fair brochure in 1999
(HALI 104, p.144) and then by the London fine art dealer Daniel Katz, it belongs
to a suite of 93 carpets ordered by Louis XIV to furnish the Grande Galerie at
the Louvre, but which were never installed and subsequently dispersed.

Tribal Hunting in New York- Hali 2008

After a promising opening night for many dealers, this year’s New York
International Tribal & Textile Arts Show (15-18 May 2008) was a mixed affair.
Some dealers who had begun with high expectations left disappointed, others
who had taken a more pessimistic view of the market were pleasantly
surprised.

World's Currently Largest Rug- IRNA 2008

Tehran,(MNA) —Iran unveiled what it said was the world largest handwoven
carpet, worth $5.8 million and larger than a football field, to be laid out in a
United Arab Emirates mosque, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported. The
carpet, adorned with green and cream colors, was made in 18 months from 38
tons of wool and cotton by 1,200 weavers from three villages in northeastern
Iran, said the head of Iran"s state carpet company, Jalaleddin Bassam.
